SBM Connect

  School Business Manager Community

You support everyone else. Who supports you?

Make space for your development and move your real work forward.

A supportive community for School Business Managers

You support everyone else. Who supports you?

Welcome to the True North School Business Community, a place to connect with people who understand the work you do and the responsibility you carry.

Whether you are finding your feet, aspiring to become a school business manager or leading an experienced team, you deserve support with your own development and somewhere to turn when you need another perspective.

Here, you can share a challenge, ask a question and learn from colleagues who understand school life. Find practical resources and ideas to help you move forwards, alongside conversations that support your professional growth.

Why join us?

  • Find people who understand. Connect with others facing similar pressures and decisions.

  • Get practical support. Explore useful tools and resources you can apply in your setting.

  • Learn from experience. Share what works and gain a fresh perspective on a challenge.

  • Make time for your development. Explore opportunities to strengthen your practice and take your next career step.

You bring valuable experience too. Your question could start a conversation that helps someone else, and something you have solved could make another colleague’s day easier.

I created True North to champion the people who make schools work. This community is somewhere we can keep learning and supporting one another, beyond a single event or conversation.

Join the True North community

Come as you are. Bring your questions, your experience and whatever you are working through.

You can join our community, but have you heard about Share Learn Grow?

Share Learn Grow Leadership Circle

We begin with discovery sessions with you and your headteacher, agreeing your development priorities and what progress should look like.

Your goals might include building confidence in difficult conversations, strengthening team accountability, improving an operational process or creating more capacity through clearer priorities and delegation.

Your development journey What happens
Agree your priorities

Identify the skills, confidence and approaches you want to strengthen, alongside your school’s needs.

Develop through CPD

Explore leadership skills, practical frameworks and operational challenges during facilitated Circle days.

Apply your learning

Choose manageable actions connected to work you already need to move forward.

Review your progress Use coaching, reflection and documented updates to recognise improvement and decide your next steps.

The programme combines:

  • Six facilitated Leadership Circles  shared learning, professional discussion and practical problem-solving.

  • Individual coaching  supporting personal development, confidence and leadership growth.

  • A professional online community  connection, practical tools and ongoing peer support.

  • Workplace application turning learning into meaningful action within the school.

  • Accountability and impact review  tracking progress and evidencing improvements.

What could this help you with?

  • Finding clarity when everything feels urgent.

  • Building confidence in decisions and difficult conversations.

  • Strengthening delegation, ownership and accountability.

  • Working more effectively with your headteacher and wider team.

  • Moving an operational improvement forward.

  • Recognising and evidencing the difference your work makes.

You don’t need to arrive with everything figured out. Bring a question, a challenge or something you want to improve.

A community alongside you throughout the year

The online community is a central part of your membership.

Between sessions, you have somewhere to ask questions, share experience, explore resources and stay connected with people who understand the responsibility you carry.

Together, the CPD, coaching and community support your growth in confidence, capability and capacity. Agreed goals and regular reviews help you and your headteacher see your progress.

Why I created Share • Learn • Grow

I am Lucy North, founder of True North School Business.

Having led school business and operational services, I understand how much this role asks of you and how easily your own development can be pushed aside.

I created Share • Learn • Grow because useful learning needs time, support and follow-through to make a difference.

I want you to have a circle where you feel understood, can think openly and get support with what happens next.

Be part of our founding circles

We’re bringing together first groups of school business and operational leaders.

As a founding member, you’ll help shape the conversations and priorities around the real needs of the people in your circle.

If you would  value regular support from people who understand your role, I’d love you to join us.
